Firstly, most intelligent people (Jews included), understand that the very idea of countries and nation states is laregly a public relations ploy desingned to confuse the proles, in this, our wonderful corporate global economy. Having said that, theres always some son-of-a-bitch that didn't get the word. Hence necessitating intelligence agencies and occasional acts of espionage against all comers, including our "friends". Secondly, Israel's friendship with the U.S. is a qualified one. The qualafier is, and always has been;

"We'll pass some intelligence (that which WE deem to be necessary to your defense) to you, we'll sell you weapons, we'll even run political cover for you at the UN. In return, you will use the money we loan you to buy American products and weapons at userous rates of interest and you will not ask for any information or weapons that might compromise our deals with the Saudis or any other state for that matter"

Israel has always done what was necessary for its survival, in the stategic sense of the word and in every other sense of the word. In light of the nature of Israels relationship with the U.S., its hard to understand why the American gov't would be believe itself to be excluded from this policy.

The gentleman in question is an honorable man. Far from being a "traitor", he is now a captured soldier who has been apprehended for his actions 20 years after the fact, saying less about his loyalties and more about the competency of American Counter-Intelligence. The man is an Israeli ex-pat who had fought with the Haganah in 48' and then immigrated to the states. That was a life-defining experience. For this man, there was never any question of "dual loyalties". He had thrown his lot in with his people 60 years ago, and just because he decided to make his domicile here in the states, that as with most honest men, didn't change. When his country asked him for help, he did't hesitate, he didn't ask for money or recompense. When the gov't initiated their investigation, he contacted his handler(like a professional)and asked for instructions. When the net began to close in, he didn't run to the Israeli embassy crying and screaming, he simply waited for the knock at the door, and when it came, he fell on his sword. No folks. The question of dual loyalties is important only to those American Jews who want to have their cake and eat it to.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2602141549066899855.post-83613135085012872162008-04-24T14:37:00.000-07:002008-04-24T14:37:00.000-07:00Thanks for the thoughtful comment, Anon.Thanks for the thoughtful comment, Anon.Brad A.
